I am thrilled to welcome you into the home of Dana Hennesey for today’s home tours blog edition. There are so many DIY ideas in her home, that I will post them later with specific instructions. For now, let’s enjoy her bright and beautiful decorating style. Dana, her husband and three children have made their home, in Richmond Virginia, a warm and inviting atmosphere that inspires creativity in every room. Emma, one of their daughters, is quite the budding young artist as you will see in her room later. Let’s begin with their newest addition to their home, the sunroom.
Dana states that she based the blue and green color scheme of the room around this beautiful Waverly fabric called “Solar Flair Lime Indigo”. She took the swatch everywhere when picking out furniture and complimentary additional fabrics. She wanted to use green to bring the outdoors inside and give the downstairs an overall open and airy feel. The gorgeous turquoise print chairs came from Overstock and the pillows on chairs were purchased at Pier 1. As seen below, the watercolor colors giclee canvas print on the wall really pulls all of the colors in the room together!
Moving into the dining room, Dana painted stripes on the wall using polyurethane. She is so “hands on” and creative with her decorating ideas. I need to take a home improvement class from her! She is also an expert at thrift shopping. Dana purchased the sideboard from Craigs List for $100 and painted it white. She added the turquoise flower knobs from Anthropologie to make it unique and current. The chandelier is Murray Feiss.
I love the Kitchen with a minty blue glass backsplash, and large lanterns above the island from Pottery Barn.
In the Family Room they added white painted wainscoting with pale blue paint. Dana states, “We used cool, pale colors in this house to lighten and brighten it up as it was so dark and dingy when we bought it.” The floral silk pillow on the sofa from Pier 1, and the prints above the sofa are from Ballard Designs.
And how adorable is this little vignette on the table with small stones engraved with kids names from Etsy.
The Master Bedroom is a peaceful sanctuary complete with colorful bedding (Woodland organic duvet cover and euro shams) and a cream upholstered headboard from Pottery Barn.
On the dresser is yet another sweet vignette of family photos and Pottery Barn lanterns.
I had to include Emma’s Bedroom too! This is every little girl’s dream room with lots of pink and whimsical designs. “We did this room makeover for her 8th birthday as a surprise.”
After photographing Dana’s home, I started thinking about all of the tips and easy project ideas she gave me. She knows how to pull everything together in such a beautiful way. I leave you with these amazing shots of the sunroom taken from their open upstairs hallway.
Thank you Dana for sharing your stylish home decor with us! I know you have inspired many with your decorating tips!
