The 2012 Kentucky Derby will be run for the 138th time on Saturday, May 5th at Churchill Downs. Some say that the Kentucky Derby is the greatest two minutes in sports, and I agree! If you are having a get-together, see below for some Kentucky Derby party ideas for your event.

Kentucky Derby Party Ideas

The Kentucky Derby is one of my favorite events to watch! I actually have been to a prestigious Keeneland Horse race, but the Derby is on my bucket list. If you are having a gathering to watch the race from your home, here are some fun ideas for your party. A tradition associated with the Kentucky Derby is the mint julep, so you must include juleps on your menu or go with Mint Julep cupcakes.

In addition to Mint Juleps, Mimosas are another drink of choice before the Derby event or at brunch the day after! Also, don’t miss the Kentucky Derby Party menu via southernliving.com complete with ham buscuits and bourbon truffles.

Mimosas:
1 quart orange juice
1 fifth Champagne
1 pint fresh strawberries and
Superfine sugar (optional)

The Kentucky Derby celebrates in high fashion. It wouldn’t be the same without the Hats Hats and more Hats ~ the bigger the better! Take a look at these beauties stepping out in style.
