ours is a light, natural wood… but i think the black lacquer gives it an instant modern makeover!

black, it'a fixture of the apartment, the building is listed and few things can be changed, in and out, you can but there is a lot to be done to get permission, I love it black though great contrast with the stairs color (plus we rent so no other choice anyway)

My banister was supposed to be painted black and by a mistake my contractor make, it was painted a very dark charcoal gray. I LOVED how it looked and ended up working the color into other accents in my home.
